Why I Started Photography
Hi, I'm Joel.
Since I was a kid, I've loved photography — from a little yellow Kodak disposable camera, to my mom's Canon film camera, to getting my first camera of my own in middle school. I never stopped taking pictures.
What I've learned since is that photography isn't really about images. It's a language for connecting with the people around you. Once I understood that, everything changed — because everyone wants to be seen, and a photograph is proof that they were.
Weddings found me as I went deeper into photography, and they stuck. There's no other day where that many people who love each other are in one room at once. Capturing that — honestly, without staging it into something it isn't — became what I care about most in this work.
